Well, I've just heard the word that my friend, Fr. David Moyer is to be consecrated a bishop for the Traditional Anglican Communion in February on the eve of the Primates' Meeting. The twist is that he is to remain rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rosemont, PA. FiF/NA has now issued their statement in support of this development.
Why does this not sit well with me? I could, perhaps, see it if everyone were on board. It does not appear that everyone is. I have heard that the Archbishop of Canterbury has been kept in the loop on plans as they have come together, but that is not at all the same thing as giving his blessing. Archbishop Malango, Fr. Moyer's primate, is apparently unable to be present for the service of consecration. What gives here? It just doesn't seem clear or clean enough. Is Good Shepherd leaving the Episcopal Church? No. Is Fr. Moyer? No, he will still be their priest. But he is also going to be a bishop for another jurisdiction. It doesn't add up. Will he be a bishop, or won't he?
